I'm so scared about applying! My weighted gpa is alright but unweighted not soo much (3.1/3.3). I have 5 APs, varsity sports since 10th grade, president/vp of club, 4 clubs, and special olympics volunteer. jmu material? :\ I'll also have 2 very strong recommendations (counselor and teacher on subject i want to major in).

There is a website called collegeconfidental.com that will help determine how much of a chance you have at getting in. I would really try to pull up your GPA or get really good SAT scores. Also, take the ACT. I know that helped me out. I hope you do get in! You sound like a nice student to have on campus. Good luck! Let us know if you need anything. :)

Sometimes diversity isn't the whole of it though... I know a lot of people who not only bring diversity to the school, but a lot of brilliance too!

I'm thinking of applying to JMU this fall. I'm from Long Island, NY and I'm kind of scared I'll be one of the few people from NY that goes there and that I might have a hard time fitting in :/ do you guys have a good amount of people from the NY area that go there? Thanks! :)

YES! haha. It seems like everyone at JMU is from Northern VA (NOVA), New Jersey and New York. I promise you will not be alone, and you will definitely fit in! JMU is a very friendly place :) I hope this helped. How did you find out about JMU? I was always curious about how people from NY found it. haha.

Can you explain what Dukes and Top Dog are? Are those nicknames for buildings? I am on anon so people don't get mean.

No worries, haha. Dukes and Top Dog are two places on campus where you can go to eat. They share a building (Phillips Hall); Top Dog is on the top floor, and Dukes is below. Have you toured campus yet? Top Dog has an entrance right near the on campus movie theatre. I hope this helps!
